This Italian Riviera hotel enjoys a superb location on the border with France. The Hotel La Riserva di Castel d'Appio, Ventimiglia is set within an old building, 300 metres above the sea, and beneath the ruins of the Castello d'Appio (castle). From here you have marvellous views down onto the Riviera dei Fiori (the western stretch of the Italian Riviera), with San Remo (Sanremo) 18km away. The Principality of Monaco, once home to Princess Grace, is a similar distance, and many visitors will want to pay visits to the Cote d'Azur on the French side of the border.

This building was once a 13th century garrison - now it offers 21st century comforts. All rooms are air conditioned, with cable/satellite TV, private bathrooms, minibar, in-room safe, hairdryer. There is an outdoor swimming pool, set within a terrace colourful with flowers (this isn't called the 'Riviera of Flowers' for nothing), a marvellous restaurant serving the best of this northern Italian region of Liguria (pesto and fresh fish are the specialities of the region).

The Genoese positioned the castle here in the 13th century, employing this strategically important vantage point to defend this stretch of coast. Now you can enjoy the fantastic views from the rooms and the restaurant, as the precipitous slopes of the Maritime Alps drop to the Mediterranean (the Gulf of Genoa) far below - this hotel in Liguria enjoys a quite magical situation.
