Hotel La Spiga, near Cuneo

The little town of Cherasco, in Italy's beautiful Piemonte region sits 288 metres up, close to Bra and Alba and some 50 kilometres south east of Turin/Torino. Just outside town lies the Albergo Ristorante La Spiga - a superb hotel with just eight nicely equipped and most comfortable rooms. This is the meeting of the Langhe and Roero areas, a part of northern Italy famed for its superb cuisine and wine, and the hotel lies amid the vineyards of San Michele di Cherasco.

You can relax with a book in the lounge, enjoy the mild Alpine climate in the lush gardens, even take a dip in the open air pool (during the warmer months only of course); the swimming pool sits on a raised terrace in the gardens. Or you can simply while away the hours on the terrace, drinking in magnificent views of the mountains and the valleys.

Each of the eight bedrooms is air conditioned, with television, TV and radio, bathroom with shower and bath tub. Cherasco's Hotel La Spiga has a very good restaurant serving typical local cuisine of Piemonte/Piedmont, with fish an integral part of the menu. There is a terrace and bar, non smoking rooms and accommodation for guests with limited mobility, free parking and luggage storage available. Le Langhe, its gently rolling hills sitting at the foot of the Alps ('Piemonte' literally means 'foot of the mountains') is all about the fresh, healthy outdoors. There is good walking of course, skiing within reach, biking, horse riding and a golf course nearby.
