Hotel La Vecchia Palma, Catania
The first thing you'll notice about this hotel is its bright yellow facade. Inside you'll find cosy rooms, and a great place to stay during your visit to Catania. Located in the heart of the city, the hotel is close to transport links and the main attractions.
Catania attracts tourists every year for its beautiful beaches, architecture and location at the base of Mount Etna. You can spend lazy days basking on the popular beach of La Original Cucaracha, or wandering the streets admiring the Sicilian baroque architecture. Popular attractions include the magnificent cathedral, the medieval Ursino castle and the remains of a Greco-Roman amphitheatre, which still hosts live events.
Should you wish to escape the city then Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, is only a bus ride away. Popular excursions include hiking, mountain biking and hiring off-road vehicles to explore the mountain's national park. Those who are particularly adventurous can even go climbing on the mountain's cliff face.
The La Vecchia Palma is housed in a 19th century villa and still retains the homely charm of a private property. The hotel uses old Sicilian baroque styling, with ornate frescoes on the walls and ceilings, mixed with modern comforts. The rooms are all individually decorated and furnished, with modern facilities such as plasma TVs, ensuites and WiFi access to the internet. There is also an American style bar area for a relaxing evening drink, and a breakfast buffet which can be enjoyed in the summer garden.
