Hotel Le Volpaie, Castel San Gimignano - this little San Gimignano hotel lies in beautiful countryside a few kilometres south west of the historic city. A select hotel with just 15 rooms, Le Volpaie sits in its own gardens and has a swimming pool. Family run, it is managed directly by owners Anna and Luca Sozzi. Beautifully lost in stunning Tuscan countryside, this hotel does rather demand that you have your own transport - either car or hire car. There is lots to see in the countryside around here - San Gimignano of course, as well as historic Volterra and Siena. Just east of here you enter beautiful Chianti. Needless to say, both wine and food are terrific in this part of Tuscany.

San Gimignano has two important churches, the Collegiata and the Church of Sant'Agostino, both of them with superb frescoes from Benozzo Gozzoli and Domenico Ghirlandaio. There is the Museo d'Arte Sacra, the defensive walls and, outside the town, the ancient pilgrims' route of the Via Francigena - all within easy reach of your Castel San Gimignano hotel.
