Hotel Letizia, Palermo
The Hotel Letizia is a pleasantly understated, 13-room hotel in a prime location in the very centre of Palermo. Just off Via Vittoria Emanuele, one of the city's main streets, and also close to the waterfront, with its excellent cafes, guests at this three-star hotel in Sicily are able to walk to many of the most popular attractions, though public transport links from this spot are also excellent. The rooms at this reasonably priced Palermo hotel are each complete with air conditioning and hairdryer and some with a balcony overlooking the hotel's charming courtyard. The hotel is elegantly decorated with shiny dark wood floors, antique furniture and soft Persian rugs. The hotel's relaxed atmosphere makes it popular with business travellers wanting to stay somewhere more intimate, and secretarial and translating services can be arranged by reception if required.
The city of Palermo was first established by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BC and since then has been controlled by the Romans, Greeks and Arabs, among others. It therefore has an eclectic culture with varied influences, giving rise to a unique feel and lifestyle found nowhere else in Italy. Aside from the city's fascinating historical attractions, visitors must also make time to stroll through the famous fresh produce market of Vucciria, as well as the stalls of Casa Professa and Lattarini selling clothes, and the Calderia market selling antiques and handicrafts. July is a particularly fun month to visit the city, when there is a five-day festival celebrating Palermo's patron saint's day - Santa Rosalie. But the city is a vibrant and bustling destination all year round, with plenty of bars, clubs and cafes to keep you entertained.
