Hotel Lodi, Rome
Set in a quiet and rather elegant district of Rome, the Hotel Lodi offers affordable two-star accommodation on Via Oristano. This is an area of typical Roman 19th century villas, between the Basilicas of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Giovanni in Laterano. The building itself is an elegant 19th century structure sitting in a pleasant garden - the perfect place to relax after a long day spent strolling the streets and piazzas of Rome.
This area is to the south-east of the historic centre of town, and you are within a couple of hundred metres walk of the nearest metro (underground/subway) station. Rome also has excellent bus services, so you'll have no trouble getting around to see the sights. There is a choice of single and double rooms, triple and quadruple, with a choice of private or shared bathroom. All have colour television and telephone with direct outside line. Facilities at the hotel include left luggage and storage, express checkout, 24-hour front desk, and there is plenty of space outdoors to relax, including the rooftop terrace.
Must-see sights include the wonders of Ancient Rome of course, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Pantheon. There are more 'modern' sights at which to marvel, including the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps, part of the rich architectural fabric that makes Rome one of the world's most romantic cities. And there are the countless treasures of the Vatican museums (an extraordinary collection which you will never exhaust) as well as the Vatican and St Peter's itself.
