Hotel Londra Palace, Venice

A little history first. Back in 1867, Mr Genovesi, flushed with success from managing another hotel in Venice, rented a new, three-storey building on the Riva degli Schiavoni. So was opened the Albergo Bella Riva et Pension, in a 19th century Lombard style, and in white Istria marble. Today known as the Hotel Londra Palace, Mr Genovesi's creation gazes out upon St Mark's Basin, a few steps away from the Palazzo Ducale (Doges' Palace) and the Ponte Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs).

This is a superb location for a hotel in Venice. The Riva waterfront stretches 500 metres from St Mark's to the Castello district, and the Londra Palace has no fewer than a hundred windows looking out onto the Lagoon. This is a view stretching from the Salute Basilica to the island of Giudecca, and over San Giorgio Maggiore, San Servolo, San Lazzaro degli Armeni and the Lido.

The hotel has had some famous guests in its time. Tchaikovsky composed three movements of his Fourth Symphony here. And Gabriele D'Annunzio, the famous Italian lyrical poet, attended the unveiling of the bronze equestrian monument to King Vittorio Emanuele II, which still stands near the hotel.

Rooms at this Venice hotel are doubles and suites. All have radio, minibar, bathroom, air conditioning, telephone and television. Services at the hotel include WiFi internet access, babysitting, dry cleaning and laundry. There is a 24-hour front desk service and non-smoking rooms available. This Venice accommodation has a restaurant and bar.
