Hotel Manin, Venice
Venice is one of the world's most spectacular and beautiful cities, and the Hotel Manin makes the most of it, with a quite magnificent situation. Overlooking the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge, this lovely old hotel is just ten minutes from St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco).
It's also a terrific family hotel. There is a garden and outdoor play area, a dry cleaning and laundry service, and 24-hour front desk. The hotel has its own lounge bar, and all rooms are accessible by lift.
It's also a building suffused in history. Venice's Hotel Manin sits within the old Barocci palazzo, built in the nineteenth century by Pellegrino Orefice, on the site of one of Venice's seven old opera houses, the Teatro SantAngelo, itself opened in 1676. On this spot, Vivaldi staged the first nights of his operas!
A careful and sympathetic restoration process has returned the building to its previous glory. With 44 rooms, 11 of them suites, the atmosphere is one of quiet comfort and a marvellous old world atmosphere. You'll arrive from the Sant Angelo waterbus stop on the Grand Canal itself, and many of the rooms have windows overlooking the Canal Grande.
