The Hotel Miramare E Castello is in the town centre of Ischia Porto, the main town on Ischia. This is an exclusive five-star hotel complex and sits on its own private beach. Lying just 200 metres from the main shopping thoroughfare of the town and around a kilometre from the harbour, this is a great location. You also have superb views of the ancient Castello Aragonese (the Aragonese Castle) and beyond. From here you look up to the Phlegrean coastline of mainland Italy (the 'Fiery Fields' of Campania, which lie west of Naples and are enshrined in Classical myth), to the Sorrento Peninsula and the isle of Capri.

A beautiful location then, but you could spend whole days simply lazing on the beach. You could soak up the rays of the Mediterranean sun on the roof garden, or spend a long, leisurely lunch or dinner at the al fresco restaurant. Ischia is of course famous for its thermal spa facilities: this volcanic island was a particular favourite with the Ancient Romans, who came here to relax and recharge their batteries. You can do the same, with a trip to the wellness centre, complete with jacuzzi, solarium, and Turkish bath.
