The Hotel Ristorante Miramare is on Calabria's Ionian coastline, its terraces gazing directly onto the crystal blue waters at Marina di Gioiosa Jonica. From here you enjoy superb views of the stunning sunsets and (perhaps) the sunrise. This stretch of coastline is one of the cleanest in Italy, and yearly since 2001 has been awarded the 'Bandiera Blu' in recognition.

For although you are surrounded on three sides by sea, and you are never far from a sandy beach or rocky cove, Calabria is in essence a mountainous land. There are three mountain ranges, the Sila, Pollino and Aspromonte. To protect this magnificent natural environment (the habitat for many protected species) most of the inland area is under the auspices of the Parco Nazionale dell'Aspromonote. Other must-see sights include the superb rocky coast at Capo Vaticano, and the nearby town of Tropea - quite beautiful.
