Hotel Montemare, Positano

This great family-run hotel in Salerno province has lovely ocean views and a picturesque location, nestling in the rocky cliffs of the Amalfi coast. The beach is just ten minutes away and Capri and Amalfi are both a short boat ride away. A particularly attractive feature of Positano's Hotel Montemare is the fabulous restaurant terrace which overlooks the sea: views from here are stupendous, and it almost feels as though you are floating in the wonderful coastal landscape. The hotel was founded over 50 years ago by Papa Vita, known local as O Capitano - a man who truly valued the art of hospitality. Staff are warm and friendly and excellent English is spoken here.

All 29 guest rooms are light and peaceful, simply furnished in a modern Mediterranean style. Every room has its own private balcony or terrace and is equipped with individually controlled air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, cable/satellite television, personal safe and a generously stocked minibar. Rooms are fully en-suite and bathrooms are fitted with a shower and hairdryer, while suites have Jacuzzi-style hydromassage baths. A sumptuous continental-style breakfast is included in the room rate.

The restaurant specialises in Neapolitan pizzas and its terrace boasts a view which is said to be one of the most beautiful in Positano. Guests are invited to choose from a menu of delicious pizzas and salads made using fresh, local ingredients and top-quality produce. The hotel also has a welcoming lounge/bar with an extensive drinks menu and well-equipped meeting facilities. There is friendly, attentive 24-hour service on the front desk where guests will find plenty of tourist information, left-luggage and storage facilities. There is a useful babysitting service and parking can be found in the vicinity. Quiet, well-behaved pets are welcomed here.
