Hotel Morandi, Sanremo

The Hotel Morandi has been a landmark in Sanremo since 1894. Established on Corso Matuzia by the Morandi family, this San Remo hotel offers three-star comfort, is one of the most prestigious in town, and is right next to the seafront, the promenade and the beach.

You'll recognise the hotel straight away with its elegant Liberty architecture, typical of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the fashionable resorts of the Italian and French Rivieras. Here you are tucked away from the noise and the city traffic, amid mature trees and the fragrance of the gardens. This is a splendidly relaxing spot, and yet you are just a few hundred yards from the famed Casino Municipale, where for decades visitors have won and lost fortunes. Like most visitors, however, you may content yourself with chancing a few euros on the spin of the wheel.

Rooms at this San Remo hotel are single, double, triple or quadruple. All have air conditioning, telephone, bathroom with shower and toilet, and television. The hotel has luggage storage, family accommodation, safe deposit and luggage storage, a restaurant and buffet breakfast each morning, and there is free parking. The hotel is non smoking throughout.

Alternatively known as Sanremo or San Remo, this town on the Italian Riviera (this section is known as the Riviera dei Fiore) lies close to the border with France and Monaco. Long a haunt of the rich and fashionable, Tchaikovsky composed Eugene Onegin here, while Alfred Nobel - inventor of dynamite and the peace prize - retired to this lovely spot. Sights include the exotically planted Giardino Ormond, with olives, yuccas, date palms, jacaranda, bougainvillea and a giant Cedar of Lebanon.
