Hotel Napoleon, San Remo
This hotel in San Remo is situated just across the road from the sea (around 100 metres) and a 10 to 15-minute walk from the town centre. With a reputation for friendly and helpful staff, the Hotel Napoleon sits in its own gardens, has a veranda overlooking the sea, plenty of private parking and a covered garage.
This 3-star hotel has been run by the Bianchi family since 1958 and is situated to the west of this perennially popular resort town on Italy's Riviera dei Fiori. The bedrooms, a mix of single, double, triple and quadruple, have breakfast included. All have adjustable air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, satellite television, in-room safe, hairdryer and balcony. All have bathroom with shower and WC.
The Italian Riviera runs from the French border and the Cote D'Azur (some 25km to the west, with Cote D'Azur international airport the handiest from San Remo), down to Genoa in the east. This narrow strip of land, squeezed between the Maritime Alps to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the south, enjoys a delightfully consistent climate, with warm summers of course but mild winters too. San Remo (Sanremo) itself is set on a broad bay, sweeping between the two headlands.
With its Casino (the most famous on the Riviera after Monte Carlo), the town has long been a magnet for Europe's glitterati. Among others, Tchaikovsky wrote his Fourth Symphony and Eugene Onegin here, and the Empress Maria Alexandrovna headed a sizable Russian expat community before World War II. You neither have to be rich nor famous to stay here though - this San Remo accommodation offers a pleasant and affordable way to enjoy this lovely Italian Mediterranean resort.
