Hotel Noemi, Venice
Just 50 metres from Piazza San Marco, this hotel in Venice could hardly be better positioned for exploring the historic heart of this magnificent, romantic and quite unique Italian city. The Hotel Noemi remains under traditional family management, but has recently been renovated with the utmost care. This will be the perfect blend for most visitors to Venezia - rooms elegantly dressed in classic eighteenth century Venetian style, many with exposed roof beams, but boasting the most modern facilities.
Rooms at Venice's Hotel Noemi are a choice of doubles or triples. All are air conditioned, with bathroom with shower and WC, direct-dial phone, minibar, colour TV and breakfast included. Facilities at the hotel include a 24-hour front desk (with staff on hand to help you plan your way around this fascinating town) and a lounge bar.
But its location is everything. Napoleon Bonaparte, who laid waste to the treasures of the Serene Republic, at least paused long enough to observe that the Piazza San Marco was 'Europe's drawing room'. Today, sitting at a cafe with a coffee or a glass of wine, one still observes most of Europe, indeed most of the world passing by. There are too many sights for one vacation, indeed you could spend a week or two simply wandering the narrow 'calli' or exploring the canals by vaporetto or gondola, but must-see sights include the magnificent Basilica di San Marco (St Mark's Cathedral), the Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace), the Ca' D'Oro, Campo San Polo, the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs, and the islands of the Venetian Lagoon - principally Murano and Burano.
