Hotel Novecento, Pisa
Via Roma, 37, PisaRight in the historic heart of Pisa, Hotel Novecento lies on Via Roma, a superbly modern counterpoint to the medieval architecture around. With stylish decor and high quality furnishings, this affordable three-star Pisa hotel adds real luxury. There are just ten guestrooms here, furnished with Philippe Starck armchairs, McIntosh tables, and Dolce & Gabbana chandeliers in the hallway and dining room. The double rooms have air conditioning, bathroom with shower, minibar, phone and TV. The hotel has WiFi internet.
With a dozen or more important medieval churches and palazzi, a superb botanic gardens, the Cathedral and the Baptistery, there is much more to see in Pisa than the ubiquitous Leaning Tower, though this medieval marvel gone slightly wrong is a good place to start. Not least because it's an essential element of the Campo or Piazza dei Miracoli (the field of miracles), arguably the most perfect collection of early medieval architecture in Europe. Pisa hit its economic and military peak between the 11th and 13th centuries, and money and creativity was poured into creating the Campo's beautiful Pisan Romanesque cathedral (the Duomo of Santa Maria Assunta) and its attendant Baptistery and Camposanto. Then head for the Piazza dei Cavalieri and you'll find the church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri is not only a beautiful place of worship, it has artworks within by Donatello, Vasari and Jacopo Ligozzi. There are other fine museums in the Museo Nazionale di Sant Matteo and the Palazzo Reale. This Pisa hotel is at the heart of all that this historic city has to offer.
