A little holiday resort on Sardinia's west coast, with the nearest port and airport at Olbia (about 90 minutes' drive away). Alghero airport and the port at Porto Torres are around two hours, with Cagliari (both port and airport) around two and a half. The biggest town in the area is Dorgali, the hub of the famed Cannonau wine-growing area. Cala Gonone has grown itself in recent years, and entrance from Dorgali is spectacular, the road plunging down the cliffs to the broad sweep of the bay.
