Hotel Olimpia, Paestum

Hotel Olimpia is a lovely three-star hotel in Paestum, which lies in the southern Italian province of Salerno (Campania region). The hotel boasts an excellent position on the coast of the Costa del Cilento and there are exceptional panoramic views of this beautiful stretch of coastline. Originally founded by Greek colonists, the ancient city of Poseidonia dates back to 600 BC. This thriving and important city was abandoned for centuries after the Greeks left, and several remarkably well-preserved ancient Greek temples were excavated during the 18th century, making this an interesting tourist destination once again. There are 17 kilometres of fine, sandy beach running along the coast here, and the hinterland has acres of shady forest laced with pleasant walks and nature trails. Staff will be only too happy to help guests plan excursions to nearby places of interest including Pompeii and Naples; the hotel has a child-friendly approach with a games room and plenty of entertainment.

There are just 27 beautifully appointed, light-filled guest rooms here, all with air conditioning, colour television, direct-dial telephone and en-suite bathroom with shower facilities. Three of the double rooms have a terrace and eight have a balcony and a plentiful buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Hotel Olimpia has two separate restaurants - one inside the hotel and another out on the picturesque terrace; there are also two bars offering a wide range of drinks. Inside the hotel there is a pleasant games room with table tennis and a wide-screen TV and there is a useful internet point in the lobby area. There is friendly, helpful service on the front desk, where guests can find plenty of tourist information or book excursions to nearby Pompeii, Capri, Positano and Amalfi. The hotel has safety-deposit facilities, bikes for hire and free car parking; quiet, well-behaved pets are welcome.
