Hotel Piccolo Mondo, near Cosenza
Completely enclosed by mountains, Cosenza is the meeting point of two rivers, the Crati and the Busento. Somewhere beneath the latter (so legend has it) Alaric the Goth is buried. This barbarian, who jolted the western world when he prised open the gates of Rome in 410 AD, was then struck down by malaria while journeying south and, so says the story, interred here along with his loot. The tale has led to many fruitless searches for his tomb and lent Cosenza a place in history.
Located near this pretty and lively town, this three-star hotel is brilliantly placed for easy access to the many beautiful beaches on this stretch of coast, whilst also providing plenty of opportunity for more active pursuits in the dramatic Sila Massif. The Hotel Piccolo Mondo offers a large range of spacious accommodation including double, triple and quadruple rooms. All come equipped with air conditioning, satellite TV, telephone and minibar. Surrounded by stunning gardens, offering panoramic views of the Tyrrhenian sea, the restaurant and lounge/bar provide idyllic places to relax whilst the spa facilities, including sunbeds and massage, offer further chances to unwind.
Luckily, the staff on the concierge desk are available 24 hours a day, because there is so much on offer - from water sports such as canoeing and diving to tennis, golf, hiking, horse riding and cycling. Safety deposit boxes, luggage storage and airport transfers are also available and the friendly staff are always happy to make excursion suggestions or restaurant reservations. Offering indoor and outdoor play areas, including table tennis, this Cosenza accommodation is a fantastic choice for families. Business guests have not been forgotten either with meeting facilities, internet access and photocopying.
