This beautiful seafront hotel in Sardinia's Sassari province is located in the glorious bay of Porto Conte, which lies just 12 kilometres from the fascinating fishing port of Alghero. The complex was designed by a renowned local architect and combines traditional Catalan features with a sympathetic naturalistic design which blends beautifully with its natural surroundings. Alghero itself is a wonderful city - one of the island's most cosmopolitan resorts which has a distinctive Catalan feel to its layout and architecture. The coastline in the area, known locally as the Riviera del Corallo or coral coast, is particularly beautiful and the famous cave complex of Grotta di Nettuno is well worth a day trip.

There are 143 en-suite guest rooms at Alghero's Hotel Portaconte, including eight suites and 16 large family rooms. All rooms have their own private terrace or balcony as well as air conditioning, satellite TV, direct-dial telephone and a spacious, well-appointed bathroom with a fitted hairdryer and a shower. The hotel is fully air conditioned and has an excellent restaurant serving a menu featuring lots of Catalan and Sardinian dishes as well as more familiar classic Italian cooking and lots of delicious pastries and cakes created by the hotel's specialist pastry chef. There is also a friendly bar with an extensive drinks menu. Outside in the beautifully landscaped hotel grounds, which reach down to the beach, guests will find two open-air pools (one especially reserved for families and young children), two floodlit tennis courts, a mini-golf course, a bowling green and an attractive play area for children.

Down at the seafront there is a landing stage for pleasure boats as well as plenty of opportunities for watersports such as windsurfing, diving, canoeing and waterskiing. There is friendly, attentive 24-hour service on the front desk and regular excursions are organised as well as evening entertainment with cabarets and discos. The hotel has a small shop where guests can buy essentials, newspapers and souvenirs and there is a meeting room equipped with audio-visual equipment, an internet point and safety-deposit facilities.
