Hotel Principe Di Salina, Aeolian Islands
Via Nazionale, 3, LeniSalina is the second largest of the Aeolian Islands, and claims for itself the title of the greenest and most luxuriant of this lovely little archipelago off the northern coast of Sicily. The Principe di Salina hotel and restaurant is in Malfa on the north side of the island. This is one of Salina's three main towns (though with a population of just 2300 people and most of the island comprising the two extinct volcanoes, no town on Salina could be described as large.
The setting is gorgeous. The hotel has a panoramic view, with the blue Tyrrhenian Sea shimmering all around, and the buildings surrounded by Malvasia vineyards (Malvasia wine being the island's main produce along with capers). The hotel was built in 2005 but reflects perfectly the traditions of the Aeolian islands, built in the traditional way and furnished with traditional pieces.
This Salina hotel is set on three floors, constructed in sober and elegant style, surrounded by spacious terraces with superb views. Stand here to admire the azure sea, the stunning sunsets and (at night) the flaming eruptions of Stromboli in the distance. The hotel has a lounge, bar, solarium and very good restaurant (with great views), where the traditions of the Aeolians, heavily accented toward seafood of course, are lovingly maintained. At the heart of the building is a swimming pool and hydromassage tub fed by spring waters. The hotel is just 7km from the ports at Santa Maria and Rinella, a few minutes walk from both the heart of town and the beach.
