Hotel Punta Regina, Positano

This wonderful three-star hotel on Italy's Campania coast is located in the picturesque Amalfi Coast resort of Positano. This attractive resort on the Gulf of Salerno is built directly into the soaring cliffside and views over the ocean and out along the Costa Amalfitana are truly spectacular. Nearby are the characterful towns of Sorrento and Amalfi; the archaeological sites and ancient Roman ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum are within easy reach for a day trip. The delightful islands of Capri and Ischia are just a short boat ride away and the vibrant city of Naples is similarly nearby. The centre of Positano, with its excellent range of shops and restaurants is within easy walking distance, and the beach, too, is just a 15-minute walk from the hotel.

Originally a private villa, this charming little hotel is built on four different levels and has just 18 guest rooms, all either with stunning sea views or pretty views of the village. Rooms are spacious and comfortable and bathrooms are finished in polished tile and marble and offer a choice between a relaxing bathtub or shower and have fitted hairdryers and a complimentary selection of toiletries. Rooms themselves are equipped with air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, internet connection point, satellite colour television and a well-stocked minibar, while a generous buffet breakfast is included in the room rate. Breakfast is served on the panoramic terrace, which offers glorious views over the Bay of Positano, the village and the little islands of Clavel and Li Galli. Some of the superior rooms and suites have large balconies or terraces with fabulous views, and some additionally have an outdoor Jacuzzi-style hot tub.

The Punta Regina has a lovely lounge/bar serving a wide range of drinks - cold beers and refreshing cocktails; there is also a range of relaxing spa treatments available. There is a children's play area in the pretty, flower-filled garden and places to sunbathe with stunning sea views. Service is attentive and friendly and there is 24-hour service on reception. Additional amenities include a valet-parking service, a babysitting service, excellent meeting facilities, a dry-cleaning and laundry service and safety-deposit facilities.
