The Villa Odino was originally built as a country retreat for the Bishops of Venice (Venezia) back in the sixteenth century. The estate is 25km from Venice, 30km from the beach at Jesolo (on the Adriatic coast), 15km from Treviso and 4km from Altino. You can get to Venice in 25 minutes by car from here (though we would recommend you catch the train, which gets you to Venice's Santa Lucia station in just 20). Once in the city you can wander through narrow streets (calle) and little squares, or take the vaporetti (river boats) right up the Grand Canal to San Marco and the Rialto Bridge.

Treviso is another must-see, a superb medieval town with sixteenth century walls and it's just a half hour from the hotel. A city on the water at the meeting of two rivers, it is mentioned by Dante in the famous verse from the Divine Comedy "where the Sile and the Cagnan rivers meet" and where the Dante bridge now straddles one of its loveliest spots. The historic heart is Piazza dei Signori, with the Palazzo della Signoria. Also worth visiting are the nearby Loggia dei Cavalieri, the Casa dei Carraresi (the location of major art exhibitions), the medieval San Francesco and San Nicolo churches and Pescheria with its charming houses on the water.

Also make time for the ruins of Altino, a bustling Roman commercial centre dating from the first century AD, one of the most important in the northern Adriatic. These are still visible today in this important archaeological site less than ten minutes from Hotel Villa Odino.
