A new four-star hotel in Reggio Emilia, the Ramada Emilia is north of the historic downtown area (3km away), and conveniently close to the A1 motorway. Following the line of the ancient Via Emilia (the Roman road itself neatly bisecting the 'centro storico' of Reggio) the A1 links the city with Rimini on the Adriatic coast, Piacenza in the north, and Reggio's neighbouring cities of Bologna, Parma and Modena. It also offers swift access out to the airport.

The hotel spreads over five floors, with 89 bedrooms and four suites. Smartly, tastefully furnished rooms, with all accommodation soundproofed, and complemented by a good restaurant, cafe, garden, parking lot and garage. The perfect plan for seeing the city is to leave your car here and then head in to explore the (partly pedestrianised) central area. Reggio is flat, and bicycling is the preferred method of exploration for many guests. The state of the art rooms and suites have air conditioning, work desk, hairdryer, phone minibar, pay TV with video games, internet connection, private bathroom with bathtub, safe, radio and alarm clock.

Emilia-Romagna also boasts quite beautiful countryside of course, with ancient castles and fortresses, the foothills of the Apennine mountains bordering Tuscany to the south, and the flat plains of the Panura Padana to the north, its golden fields of wheat - broken only by serried lines of poplars - unchanged since Roman times. As well as historic Reggio, the gourmet paradises of Parma, Modena and Bologna are also well worth a trip.
