Hotel Royal Victoria, Pisa
The Royal Victoria Hotel is in one of Pisa's most historic buildings, dating back to the tenth century. Originally erected by the Winemakers Guild, the building was first an inn and later the headquarters of the University of Pisa. In the nineteenth century its tower and adjacent buildings were turned into a hotel, which soon started to attract large numbers of English visitors.
Since it was bought by Pasquale Piegaja in 1837, this establishment has been visited by over three million guests, all of whom have received a very warm welcome from the Piegaja family, who still run the hotel today, and their excellent staff. Among the visitors have been many famous figures -- statesmen, celebrities, scientists, aristocrats and the like -- whose names can be seen in the hotel's fascinating visitors' books.
The hotel has 48 comfortable rooms, some overlooking the River Arno and some with air-conditioning. All the rooms have with satellite TV, direct-dial telephone, heating and internet connection.
The hotel retains a warm, traditional atmosphere, with high ceilinged rooms, ornate ceilings and traditional Tuscan furniture. There are also parking facilities for cars, bicycles and motorcycles.
