Hotel San Anselmo, Rome
Piazza San Anselmo 2, RomeCreated within a lovely nineteenth century villa overlooking the famous Benedictine convent - this Rome hotel is in the centre of town, close to the River Tiber. This part of the city, close to the Aventine Hill, is the heart of Classical Rome, with important nearby sights including the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla and the Roman Forum. Here the Romans built their magnificent villas and temples dedicated to Minerva, Diana, Ceres and others. There are numerous important Christian churches too (Rome is of course the seat of the Roman Catholic Church), with Sts Sabina, Prisca, Anselmo and Alessio.
The Hotel San Anselmo is a delightful building, with balconies groaning with flowers and a lovely garden with scents of orange blossom. A relaxing idyll in the heart of the city, you'll go to sleep in silence and be awoken to the singing of the birds. Rooms here are doubles (and single use of), all with bathroom with bathtub and shower, radio, minibar, air conditioning, TV, phone and hairdryer. The hotel has a restaurant, 24-hour front desk, free parking, rooms and facilities for guests with disabilities, internet access, non smoking rooms and a bar.
Head out from here and you are quickly at the river. Cross and you reach the Vatican City, with its museums and St Peter's Basilica. Here too is the charming bohemian quarter of Trastevere (literally 'across the Tiber') with superb restaurants, bars and cafes. A short distance east of the hotel is the main railway station at Termini, with air terminus and trains out the airports.
