Hotel San Gallo Palace, Florence

This lovely, modern four-star hotel in Florence is located in Piazza della Liberta. It's a leisurely 20-minute stroll from the Duomo, and a little closer to the church of San Marco and the Accademia, with its fabulous collection of fine art including Michelangelo's marble figure of David. The city's business district with its international exhibition centre and congress centre is also close at hand, making this an ideal choice either for a business trip or a sightseeing visit. The San Gallo Palace is easily reachable by car and the airport is a short 15-minute taxi ride away. The hotel takes its name from the San Gallo gate to the city, which can be seen from the hotel, and this was an important entrance point for visitors to Florence during medieval times.

Opened in 2003, the San Gallo has 56 very nice rooms, all with individually controlled air conditioning, direct-dial telephone, cable/satellite television, internet connectivity, a personal safe and a refrigerated minibar stocked with drinks and snacks. En-suite bathrooms are tastefully finished in marble and include a fitted hairdryer for added convenience; the television has a range of optional pay channels, web access and in-house information about events and activities in Florence. Superior rooms and suites offer extra-spacious accommodation and there are facilities for making tea and coffee as well as an iron and ironing board. All rooms are accessible by lift/elevator and guests with disabilities, and there are designated non-smoking rooms.

The hotel has five comfortable meeting rooms, all with natural light and catering for gatherings of up to 70 people, with secretarial and catering back-up available if required. There is friendly, efficient 24-hour service on reception where multilingual staff will be happy to offer tourist information, make restaurant reservations or book theatre tickets on your behalf. There is a welcoming outdoor play area for children in the hotel gardens and other facilities include a currency exchange, a left-luggage and safety-deposit facility, valet parking and a fast dry-cleaning and laundry service.
