This pleasant little family-run B&B-style hotel in Florence (Firenze) is superbly situated for the 'centro storico' and downtown area of the city. The Hotel San Marco is located in the popular Santa Maria Novella district, just a short distance from the train station. The atmosphere here is cosy and informal and guests are offered preferential rates for groups and longer stays. All the attractions of the historic city centre - including the Uffizi Gallery, the Ponte Vecchio and stunning Duomo (cathedral), the emblem of the city - are just a short stroll away. The city's business district is also very close at hand and the area has plenty of lively, bars, trattorias and restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes.

There are just 14 bright, comfortable rooms, some of which offer private en-suite bathroom facilities. Rooms are comfortably air conditioned during the summer months and heated in winter, while bathrooms have showers plus a fitted hairdryer. Ask when making your booking if you would prefer one of the hotel's quieter rooms set away from the street; alternatively, a few rooms have their own attractive private balcony with views onto the street.

The Hotel San Marco has no bar or restaurant, but a continental-style breakfast is included in the room rate and staff will be only too happy to make suggestions for places to eat in the area around. There is also plenty of street parking nearby, a number of buses, while the mainline railway station of Santa Maria Novella is a seven- or eight-minute walk away.
