Hotel San Michele, Cortona
Hotel San Michele is a beautifully restored, historic hotel in Italy. Dating back to the 12th century, it sits right in the centre of the beautiful Tuscan city of Cortona. Originally home to the Marquis of Monte Santa Maria, this remarkable building has a fascinating and well-documented history, which the hotel staff will be delighted to share with you. The building has been extended and added to over the years and contains many artistic and architectural treasures, including an ancient fresco attributed to the school of the early Renaissance painter, Massaccio.
There are 50 unique rooms, some with coffered ceilings, others with exposed wooden beams, a mezzannine floor or pretty roof windows with views over Cortona's magical skyline. All rooms have remote-controlled air conditioning, a luxurious private en-suite bathroom, plus direct-dial telephone. Each has an internet modem link, cable/satellite TV, hairdryer and a well-stocked minibar and each is tastefully furnished with exquisite fabrics and carefully chosen antiques. Breakfast is served in the fabulous 18th-century dining hall which, in former times, served as the seat of the Etruscan Academy.
There is 24-hour service on the front desk and highly professional, courteous staff are on hand to ensure you have everything you need at your disposal. The pleasant, atmospheric bar is an ideal place to get together with friends or colleagues over a drink, or simply relax and unwind in beautiful, unhurried surroundings.
Business facilities at this hotel in Tuscany include a range of halls and meeting rooms of varying sizes including the wonderful heraldic Ancestral Hall. All are equipped with conference telephones, audio-visual aids and high-speed internet access; there are also fax facilities for hire. The hotel has secure garaging for guests' cars (bookable in advance) and all major credit cards are welcome.
