This delightful four-star hotel in Novara province has a stunning setting on the shores of Lake Orta and fabulous views of the lake and its island. The picturesque old village of Orta San Giulio is one of the prettiest in this lovely area and people come here from all over the world to wander through its atmospheric medieval streets and visit the many pilgrimage shrines that cling to the slopes of Sacro Monte (the holy mountain).

Hotel San Rocco, Orta San Giulio, was originally a convent built in the early 1800s. It was turned into a comfortable hotel during the 1960s when the adjacent Baroque-style Villa Gippini was added. During the day, guests can soak up the sun in the beautiful hotel garden or take a dip in the open air pool. The hotel also has a private boat offering trips around the lake and there's an excellent golf course nearby, too.

Rooms are comfortable and spacious and furnished in a simple, classic style. There are very nice marble en-suite bathrooms equipped with showers and hairdryers and bedrooms are equipped with satellite TV with extra pay channels, safety deposit box, direct-dial telephone, individually controlled air conditioning and heating and a well-stocked minibar. Several rooms have lovely views of the lake and there are a few superior rooms with Jacuzzi-style whirlpool baths and lovely painted ceilings. Wired internet is also available at a small additional charge.

This Lake Orta hotel has an excellent restaurant serving a tempting menu of classic Italian and typical local dishes as well as international cuisine; there is also a beautiful terrace bar with wonderful views of the lake. Hotel San Rocco is set amid pleasant gardens where guests can stroll, and there is a limited amount of parking for which there is a small charge. Service on the front desk is welcoming and professional and here guests will find a currency exchange and internet point plus plenty of information on facilities for watersports, horse riding, fishing and walking in the area. There is also a sauna where a range of relaxing and therapeutic treatments are available. A range of business services includes meeting rooms and banqueting facilities and there are also ironing and laundry services plus a babysitting service.
