Hotel Scandinavia, Venice

The Hotel Scandinavia is set in one of Venice's oldest palazzi. Built almost a thousand years ago, the building is right in the heart of the city and has a wonderfully romantic atmosphere. The Piazza di San Marco (St Mark's) and the Rialto Bridge are just a short walk away, and the hotel has a splendid view over the lovely Campo di Santa Maria Formosa.

Transformed into an hotel during the 1950s, the Hotel Scandinavia reflects the essence of aristocratic Venetian living. Each of the 33 spacious, airy rooms has a magical old-world feel, created in its sumptuous colours, fabrics and lovingly chosen pieces of period furniture. Rooms are lit by charming Murano glass lamps and every room has its own private bathroom, satellite television, direct-dial telephone and minibar. Children are welcome and the hotel offers parents a special rate for under-12s, while under-twos stay free of charge. Guests can choose between a scrumptious continental-style breakfast or the full-English version, which is served until 10am each morning.
