On the northern coast of the Gargano Promontory, the beautifully green headland that pushes out from the coast of Puglia into the Italian Adriatic, the little resort of San Menaio is a beautifully relaxed spot. The Hotel Sole was built back in the 1930s, when the Gargano was barely discovered. Although better known now, it's still unspoiled, largely thanks to the whole of the peninsula being protected as a national park (the Parco Nazionale del Gargano).
