Hotel Splendor, Rimini

In a central part of town, just 20 metres from the beach (check the map!) the Hotel Splendor is also good for the 'centro storico' and the Rimini Fiera. All the rooms (either singles or doubles) in this slick white-painted Rimini accommodation are styled in modern fashion, air conditioned, have private bathrooms, balcony, safe, satellite TV, refrigerated minibar and direct-dial phone. There is also a large guest sitting room with satellite television and bar, and a 'relaxing room' with bookshelf and TV.

The Hotel Splendor has parking for your car, free bikes available and a large front garden gazing onto the promenade. A high point is the hotel restaurant, with its selection of Romagnolo specialities (Rimini lies on the Adriatic coastline of Italy's Emilia-Romagna region). There are two main dishes on the menu each day, fish or meat, with delicious appetisers and a buffet of vegetables, plus home-made desserts. You'll start each day with a generous breakfast - a sweet buffet and a savoury one - including breads, cheeses, cured hams, croissants, muesli, cakes and jams.

It is the beaches, miles of them, that have made Rimini such a longtime favourite with Italian families. Once a little fishing town, the 'Adriatic Riviera' sees families coming back year after year, often to the same hotel. There are plenty of places to eat and drink (very affordable pizzerias and snack bars as well as some very nice restaurants). There is family fun, including the Filabandia theme park and Beach Village water park. There is also the Rimini Terme spa - relaxation for the adults. You'll find good shopping in the town, and plenty of historic sites. Rimini dates from Roman times, with remains including the Arco Augusto and Ponte Tiberio.
