Situated on one of the main arterial roads into Livorno, the three-star Hotel Stazione could hardly be bettered for position. From here you are within minutes of the A12 autostrada, and the highway that leads from Livorno to Pisa and Florence (Firenze); at the other end of the road you have Livorno's main railway station. And the international airport at Pisa is just 30km from the hotel.

A great strategic position then, and within a few minutes you can be right in the centre of town, in the 'centro storico' and the town's Venezia Nuova or New Venice district (so called for its maze of canals). This is the heart of the enlarged 'Leghorn' that was developed in the 17th century from the old fishing village. You can swiftly be in the main business area, the port or at the new 'Palace of Sport' at Palalgida. You are also within easy reach of the harbour, with tourist ferries to and from Sardinia and Corsica. Other sights include the Old Fortress (commissioned by Cardinal Giulio de' Medici, the future Pope Clement VII), the Naval Academy (Italy's first, set up in 1881) and the statue of The Four Moors. The New Fortress has little fishing boats and leisure craft bobbing alongside, while the heart of town has grand buildings including the Cathedral, the City Hall and the Piazza Repubblica. You'll also find some lively bars and reasonably priced restaurants with the best of hearty Tuscan cuisine.
