Lying just a few kilometres from the border with France, the Hotel Sud Ovest in Sestriere is a recently refurbished three-star hotel offering terrific access to the ski slopes of this beautiful winter sports area. This is the Via Lattea (or 'Milky Way'), a collection of world-class ski resorts, including Sauze d'Oulx, Claviere and Cesana Torinese, and spreading over the border to resorts such as Montgenevre in France. You won't run out of skiing here - there are 400km of ski trails, 146 pistes, night skiing courtesy of floodlights, and should the snow get thin, they simply make more of the stuff.

This Sestriere hotel lies between Valle di Susa and Val Chisone, some 2035 metres above sea level. The hotel is at the hub of the Residence Complex Sud Ovest del Colle, close to the centre and some 450 metres from the lifts. With facilities as good as this, it's not a surprise that Sestriere has been a host to the Ski World Championships, as well as the 2006 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

And when you get off the slopes, there are superb facilities to help you unwind. Apres ski includes a lovely open air terrace, where you can enjoy a coffee or something stronger, while gazing at beautiful Alpine scenery and enjoying the crisp mountain air.
