Hotel Villa Aurora, Florence

The Villa Aurora, originally a theatre built by Sir W B Spence in 1860 to entertain local English aristocrats and later turned into a luxurious hotel, was once a favourite with European royalty. Queen Victoria and Margherita of Savoy, Queen of Italy from 1878-1900, are two of the royals known to have stayed in this famous hilltop hotel, which affords uninterrupted views over Florence and the stunning Arno Valley.

Refurbished to the highest standards, the Villa Aurora offers traditional elegance combined with every modern convenience. All rooms have air-conditioning, direct-dial telephone, minibar, satellite TV and safe. No-smoking rooms are available, as are spa and sauna facilities; there is also a large solarium where cocktails are served, conjuring up romantic images of a bygone era.

The hotel's attractive breakfast room has panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, while its elegant restaurant offers the best in fine dining, using the freshest Tuscan ingredients and a mixture of modern and traditional cooking methods (including a wood-fired oven) to create traditional local and regional specialities. Guests can choose from an extensive wine list featuring over 300 labels, while fine white china, delicate crystal and stunning table arrangements of fruit and flowers all add to the refined atmosphere.

The hotel also has a comfortable bar and terrace, where guests can enjoy a relaxed drink, a conference room and garage parking facilities.
