Hotel Villa Belvedere, Colle di Val d'Elsa

Situated just outside Monterrigioni, in the heart of Chianti, Hotel Villa Belvedere is an eighteenth century Tuscan villa, transformed into a luxurious hotel boasting every modern comfort.

The villa was originally the private home of Count Ceramelli, a Florentine nobleman, and is set within a beautiful, formal Italian garden. It lies just 25 minutes drive from Florence. Twenty years ago the families which still own the Villa Belvedere transformed the old villa into a luxury hotel, and in the process saved the building. Loving restoration created 15 rooms with private bathrooms and views of the Tuscan hillsides. Each room is beautifully furnished and has direct-dial telephone and satellite television.

The hotel has a tennis court and a swimming pool and its own restaurant - dishes are created using herbs grown in the Italian garden. On warm mornings you can take your breakfast outside, in the grounds.

The position of the hotel makes it perfect as a base for a vacation in Tuscany. Situated between Florence and Siena it is perfect for exploring those historically and culturally fascinating cities, while enjoying the best of the Chianti countryside and landscape. Florence is of course home to numerous museums and galleries, including the Uffizi, the Bargello and San Marco. And countless treasures, among them Michelangelo's David and Brunelleschi's superb Pazzi Chapel. The ancient walled city of Siena is famed for its extraordinary black-and-white marble cathedral and the Piazza del Campo. And there are smaller, though not lesser, delights such as the little hilltop town of San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni itself, in the heart of Chianti.
