Hotel Villa Casalecchi, Castellina In Chianti

Hotel Villa Casalecchi, Castellina In Chianti. This superb four-star Castellina in Chianti hotel has been created within an old country house dating from the 17th century. This is a beautifully peaceful setting, with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside of Tuscany. Take long walks in the hills, borrow one of the hotel's bikes, scooters or even a horse to explore a little further. There is a tennis court, swimming pool and 'bocce' court in the grounds - everything conspires to help you relax.

But Villa Casalecchi is also a thriving farm, with olive groves, vineyards, cornfields, and sheep and pig farming on the estate. This local produce is used in the restaurant, which specialises in the best of fresh, local Tuscan cuisine. There are 16 bedrooms in the main building, plus three apartments in the former stables. All are furnished with original antique or reproduction furniture. Facilities include minibar, bathroom, telephone, air conditioning, phone and TV.

Lying some 35km south of Florence and 15km north west of Siena, the little town of Castellina in Chianti is in the heart of that most famous part of Tuscany. Chianti is an area of extraordinary beauty, with lovely little hill towns, beautiful scenery, great food and great wine of course. A very historic town, Castellina in Chianti traces its origins back to the Etruscan civilisation of six or seven hundred years BC. The evidence is there in the Poggino necropolis and the Montecalvario Mound, with its four sixth century BC tombs. See too the Via delle Volte underground tunnel, the Palazzo Ugolini-Squarcialupi and the Palazzo Bianciardi. And the Rocca (castle) is a remnant of the town's huge strategic importance in the Middle Ages, with its huge 14th century tower and Etruscan museum. This Castellina in Chianti hotel is great for the sights.
