This super four-star hotel is housed in a wonderful Moorish-style villa built in the 19th century, topped with a tall minaret and surrounded by generous parkland which slopes down to the lake. The Hotel Villa Crespi, near Orta San Giulio, is a small luxury hotel and there really is a luxurious country-house feel here; both hotel and restaurant are personally run by the owners, Cinzia and Antonio. The nearby village of Orta San Giulio is just a short walk away, and there's plenty to see here in the way of tourist attractions, with some 20 pilgrimage chapels dotted around the town and mountain, as well as some of the area's most striking mountain scenery.

Hotel Villa Crespi, in Orta San Giulio, has six double rooms and eight suites, all with high stuccoed and frescoed ceilings and furnished tastefully with a selection of elegant antique furniture, opulent drapes and generous, comfortable beds. En-suite bathrooms are finished in cool marble and have both shower and Jacuzzi-style whirlpool bath as well as fitted hairdryers. Most of the bedrooms have their own private balcony with lakeside views; guests can choose between a king-size or twin beds. In addition, rooms are equipped with satellite television, direct-dial telephone, adjustable air conditioning and a writing desk. All rooms are generously proportioned and there are three handsome suites, two of which have wonderful canopy beds. A delicious buffet-style breakfast is included in the room rate, and this includes a wide selection of fresh fruit, pastries, cheeses and cold meats.

The hotel has a non-smoking policy throughout, and quiet, well-behaved pets are welcome. All rooms are accessible by lift/elevator and the hotel has facilities for guests with disabilities. There is an excellent restaurant which has been awarded two Michelin stars for its wonderful gourmet menu and comprehensive wine cellar. There is also an elegant bar offering cocktails, wine and coffee, plus a small health spa with a Turkish steam room. Guests will find friendly, professional service on the front desk with a good range of tourist information; excellent English is spoken here. Children are welcome (under-sevens stay free), cots are available (one cot per room) and there is plenty of parking. Please note, this hotel does not have internet access.
