The churches, museum and bustling Piazza Tasso are just moments from the doors of this Sorrento hotel. It is perhaps more famous for its limoncello - a strong, sugary alcoholic drink which is not to be missed. There are the small beaches of Marina Grande and Marina Piccola close by, but Sorrentines themselves often prefer to walk west for half an hour or so, where you come across more spacious and exclusive beaches. From Sorrento, it is only an hour by car, or 30 minutes by hydrofoil, to the fabulous city of Naples, with its Royal Palace and San Carlo Opera House, among other attractions. The fascinating archaeological excavations at Pompeii, which were formed when Mount Vesuvius erupted in AD 79 and encased the entire city in ash, must be seen to be believed.
