Hotel Villa San Lorenzo Maria, Rome
This very nice Rome hotel is in the heart of town, in San Lorenzo district - a typical and traditional area of the city. Built in 1910, the hotel was originally a large townhouse, and has now been elegantly converted into hotel accommodation. Contemporary comforts sit alongside beautifully realised and refined interiors. There is parking for guests and an escape from the city streets in the hotel's charming little garden - an oasis of flowering shrubs.
Hotel Villa San Lorenzo Maria is on Via Dei Liguri, close to the most important sights of Classical Rome. From here you can walk to the Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre constructed in Ancient Rome and still remarkably intact and impressive - one of the world's most iconic structures. There is the Roman Forum, the Domus Aurea, the Pantheon, the Arch of Constantine ... the list goes on and on. And this is before you roll forwards through the 2000 years of history, culture and architecture extant upon the streets of the Eternal City. Rome was a centre of Renaissance architecture, with Michelangelo's Piazza del Campidoglio. There is the neoclassical hulk (not to everyone's taste) of the Monument of Vittorio Emanuele II. There are fine parks and gardens, including the Villa Ada and the Villa Doria Pamphili. And there are superb museums and galleries including the National Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum of Rome and - of course - the Vatican.
The Hotel Villa San Lorenzo Maria has 39 rooms, a mix of single, double and triple over three floors. Many open onto the garden. All are elegant, charming and simply decorated. Rooms have air conditioning, phone, TV, iron, work desk and safe, bathroom and hairdryer.
