Hotel Villa Tivoli, Merano

This delightful four-star hotel in Merano is located in a peaceful, green haven far from traffic noise and the hustle and bustle of the city. The hotel building is a charming turn-of-the-century villa with tall ceilings and a wealth of lovely period details and it's surrounded on all sides by an enchanting garden full of exotic plants and shady trees with views of the South Tyrol's magnificent mountains at every turn. In the garden, there's a naturally occurring spring where fresh, mineral-rich water gushes up from deep within the rocks. The city of Merano is just a short distance away, with its handsome villas, elegant streets and excellent facilities.

Hotel Villa Tivoli has just 19 rooms, all with beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom facilities as well as direct-dial telephone, cable/satellite television, a generously stocked minibar and a personal safe. A hairdryer and a supply of complimentary toiletries is provided in the bathrooms, where guests will also find fluffy bathrobes, slippers and towels to make their stay here more comfortable. All the rooms are south facing and have their own private balcony. Breakfast, which is served on the garden terrace during the summer months, is a delicious buffet featuring hot and cold dishes with plenty of local products.

The pavilion restaurant "Artemis" offers guests a mouthwatering a la carte menu featuring locally sourced seasonal produce, typical local specialities with a range of tasty options for vegetarians and those on special diets. There is also a table d'hote menu offering a five-course gourmet dinner for guests opting for half-board packages. The restaurant has an extensive wine cellar where tastings are regularly held. There is also a cosy, wood-panelled "Salzburg Stube" where guests can enjoy and informal drink and a snack.

Villa Tivoli has both indoor and outdoor swimming pools (the famous rock lagoon in the garden) as well as a sauna and sunbeds. As well as a well-equipped meeting room, there is a cosy library with an internet point and relaxing lounges where guests can meet with friends or enjoy a quiet read. Friendly, approachable staff are on hand to book tickets for flights, trains or the theatre on your behalf and guests will find a newspaper service, a dry cleaning and laundry service and free bicycle hire at the reception desk. All floors are accessible via the hotel's lift/elevator and there is garage and outdoor parking plus a transport service to and from the airport.
