Hotel Villaggio Stromboli, Stromboli
The Hotel Villaggio Stromboli is a well-presented three-star hotel on the island of Stromboli off northern Sicily. This is the home of one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, and the island has been in a state of almost continuous eruption for most of the past 2,000 years. It is Stromboli's volcano from which the characters in Jules Verne's book 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' emerge after their subterranean journey. There are ferry crossings which link Stromboli to the other Aeolian Islands, and the hotel can pick passengers up upon request in one of the characteristic 'apecars' ' small, slim vehicles which are able to handle the extremely narrow roads of this island.
This friendly Stromboli hotel is in a unique position right on the sea and in between two solidified lava flows. The Villaggio Stromboli has 37 reasonably-priced rooms with mini-bar, air conditioning, colour television and a practical selection of complimentary toiletries. This Sicily hotel offers two separate restaurants, one covered and one outdoor, on a terrace looking out over the beach and Tyrrhenian Sea. The hotel is very welcoming of children, and staff can provide cots and whatever else is necessary for those travelling with little ones. There is also plenty of garden space outside where children can stretch their legs and let off steam.
