The town of Cesano Maderno is a marvellously strategic stopping point for visitors to Italy's Lombardy region. Not so much for Cesano itself, though this historic town does have a number of sights that bear a visit - the Palazzo Arese Borromeo, the Palazzo Arese Jacini, Il Torrazzo, the Palazzina Carcano Cabiate and the Church of Santo Stefano among them. Most visitors will be staying in Cesano Maderno for its position at the apex of the city of Milan (15 kilometres of so south of here), Monza race track (roughly 10 kilometres to the south east), and with the Italian Lakes just north of here. The town lies just off the SS35 trunk road. Continue north and you are quite quickly at the town of Como, itself at the southern extreme of the eponymous lake. Cesano Maderno has two airports within easy reach, with Milan Malpensa to the west and Bergamo's Orio al Serio to the east. A number of the less famed but no less lovely Italian Lakes lie within striking distance too, among their number Lake Alserio, Varese, Lago di Pusiano and Lagio di Annone. Head just a little further north and you are into the Alps and the Swiss border - this area of northern Lombardy is a beautiful part of north Italy, and here you are within reach of the city, national parks, the mountains and the stunning and tranquil Italian Lakes.
