The little northern Italian town of Levico Terme is in the Italian province (Trento) of that most unusual of Italian regions - Trentino-Alto Adige, or Sudtirol to give its German title. Levico Terme lies to the north east of Lake Garda, and the 'terme' in the name betrays the rather marvellous raison d'etre for the town. Levico Terme has cold thermal waters (not a contradiction, as the waters are thermally generated but reach the surface chilled, yet with their health giving properties intact).
And Levico Terme is a typical Italian spa town in many ways, a beautiful location sat between the peaks of the Dolomite Mountains and the Italian mountain lakes, some 1500 metres above sea level. This Sugana Valley (Valsugana) is a green oasis, carpeted with pine trees - the perfect backdrop for a relaxing break and a myriad 'cures' including mud baths, thermal baths, irrigation, massotherapy, inhalation therapy, treatment of respiratory and skin disorders, and others. Nearby sights include Lake Caldonazza, Lake Levio and the Lagorai-Cima d'Asta mountains. The main hub is, of course, the Levico Terme spa centre itself. Other facilities include a golf course, tennis courts, football pitches, swimming pool, horse riding, fishing and some very good restaurants - you can have too much of a good, healthy thing after all! The nearest airport is Verona Villafranca, 120km away, and Levio has a railway station, running to Venice.
