An ever popular beach resort on Tuscany's Versilian coast, Lido di Camaiore is the modern beach resort to the older town of Camaiore. Viareggio lies just south of here, with Forte di Marmi to the north. Pisa and its international airport are some 25km south east of here, while the medieval city of Lucca is a similar distance to the east. The beach is the main deal here, with a wide and deep sandy strand beautifully set between the blue Tyrrhenian Sea (northern Mediterranean) and the soaring Apuan Alps to the rear.
The flavour of Lido di Camaiore is contemporary, and the modern hotels sit beside a very pretty promenade with palm trees, flowerbeds, and of course plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. Pinewoods fringe the town, and there is fun for the children with the Luna Park theme park. There is plenty to do besides swimming and sunbathing, with a host of watersports and beach games. Trips in to the hinterland of Tuscany are also highly recommended. It would be very odd to visit this part of the world without seeing the medieval treasurehouse that is Pisa, with its Leaning Tower and Campo dei Miracoli. Lucca too, a medieval walled city, is a delight.
