Sitting at the foot of Mont Blanc (Monte Bianco) the gorgeous scenery and good connections to both Italy and central Europe have made Courmayeur one of Italy's most popular Alpine ski resorts. Milan is 220km from here, and the Mont Blanc Tunnel takes you into France in a few hours (Lyon less than 200km, with Geneva 180km). The skiing will suit the vast majority of visitors, though there isn't much to test the expert skier. The resort is rated 6 out of 10 for beginners and experts, and 8/10 for intermediate skiers, with around half the 23 runs being reds, a quarter blue and a smattering of black runs. 1224 metres up in the Aosta Valley, Courmayeur has 36 kilometres of lifts, with a good mix of runs, types of lift, and cross-country skiing also available. The longest run is 6km, there are eight drag and eight chair lifts and five cable cars. Off-piste facilities (as well as the bars and restaurants) include a bowling alley, gym and sports centre, an ice rink and some good walking. Those visiting Courmayeur in summer, of course, will be coming for the hiking and the brisk fresh mountain air. A stunningly beautiful part of Alpine Italy. From the main valley of Valle d'Aosta, there are four valleys running off, Savaranche, Grisenche, Cogne and Valle De Rheims (the Vally of the Queen), and some very pretty hamlets and villages to discover.
To the left you'll find a selection of Courmayeur hotels, just to whet your appetite.
