Mazzaro Bay is right next to the popular tourist town of Taormina, which is renowned for its beautiful location on a mountainside sloping down to the shore. You can spend days basking in the sun on the beach, or exploring the shops and restaurants of Corso Umberto, the main street of the town, and which is comfortably pedestrianised these days. Taormina's other main attractions include the public gardens and the Greco-Roman Amphitheatre, which still hosts plays and live concerts. Should you wish an activity-packed day hiking or mountain biking, the national parkland of Mount Etna is only 60 kilometres away. Mount Etna is Europe's largest active volcano and you can often see minor eruptions from Taormina.

The Hotel Jonic Mazzaro was converted into a hotel from a residential mansion in the 1950s, and still retains plenty of 19th century charm. There are 20 comfortably furnished rooms, which all have modern comforts such as private bathrooms and balconies either overlooking the bay or with views of Taormina. The hotel has two restaurants, one for breakfast and another separate restaurant 50 metres from the hotel, serving delicious Italian and Sicilian dishes.
