Kore Hotel, Agrigento

A brand-new hotel in Agrigento, the four-star Kore Hotel offers state-of-the-art comfort in this beautiful and historic location. With a fabulous position on Sicily's southern coast, Agrigento is home to the spectacular Valle Dei Templi - a string of seven ancient Greek temples and the remains of what was once the important Greek colony of Akragas. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and an extraordinary place to visit, perched along a rocky ridge a couple of kilometres from the medieval town centre. There is lots to see here, and when you've finished, the little medieval town has plenty in the way of welcoming bars and trattorias as well as a pretty, sandy beach.

The Kore Hotel has 74 bright, airy rooms, many with large panoramic windows offering beautiful views and all with excellent en-suite facilities, personal safe, plus direct-dial telephone, colour TV with satellite channels, a built-in hairdryer and a minibar. Families are particularly welcome here and there is a special reduced rate for under-12s sharing their parents' room. Cots are available and a range of children's activities is laid on throughout the summer months.

The hotel has an elegant restaurant, the "Modigliani", which has an imaginative a-la-carte menu featuring local Sicilian specialities as well as more familiar international fare. There is also a children's menu and a daily gastronomic buffet available, from which guests can choose a selection of cold cuts, grilled vegetables, salads, fruits and desserts. The restaurant has an extensive wine cellar and there's a relaxing lounge bar adjoining where guests can enjoy a cocktail or aperitif before dinner.

There is 24-hour service on the reception desk and staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable. There is a currency exchange service here, along with a left-luggage room and round-the-clock porterage. All rooms are accessible by lift and the hotel has parking for 50 cars.
