Lingotto Hotel, Turin
A magnet for business travellers, Le Meridien Lingotto is situated just 10 minutes from the centre of Turin, in the historic Lingotto Fiat car factory. The factory dates back to the 1920s but has been converted by architect Renzo Piano -- famous for his his work on the Pompidou Centre in Paris -- into an exciting leisure and shopping complex, complete with designer boutiques and trendy eateries.
The hotel has 240 light, spacious, tastefully decorated loft-style bedrooms and suites, retaining glass walls from the original Fiat factory and featuring beautiful cherry-wood panelling, specially chosen pieces of modern furniture, luxurious furnishings and modern works of art.
At the top-class Torpedo restaurant, named after a vehicle built at the Lingotto factory -- which, incidentally, was where the car-chase scenes in The Italian Job were filmed -- guests can enjoy traditional Italian and Mediterranean dishes as well as contemporary cuisine. The restaurant overlooks beautiful tropical gardens, and has an attractive outdoor seating area where guests can enjoy an al fresco meal during the summer months.
On the roof of the hotel is the former Fiat car-testing track, now a jogging area for energetic guests. The hotel also has a range of well-equipped meeting areas, with a direct link to the Lingotto Convention Centre, which has 50,000 square metres of floor space, a private helipad, and can seat up to 3,500 people.
Other amenities at this Meridien hotel include multilingual staff, facilities for disabled visitors, air-conditioned public rooms and 24-hour room service.
