On Sardinia's western coast, the town of Bosa sits amid one of the last truly untouched stretches of coastline on the island. Bosa sits on the banks of the River Temo, its medieval castle dominating above. There is a lovely old town, with its little streets little more than passages; this district of Sa Costa climbs the hills from the coast up toward the castle, and seems little changed from medieval times. As you climb you first come to the Cathedral and next to the Castello Malaspina, which dates from 1122. There is an old cathedral too, the 11th century Gothic church of San Pietro. The more modern part is Bosa Marina, 5km downriver, with a little port and sandy beach, and the isle of Isola Rossa overlooked by the old Spanish watchtower.
